The only equivalent to Senna is Maradona in Argentina to me. People cherished due to being just irreplaceable as national pride, and with powerful auras and declarations. Even Pelé in my opinion is more replaceable than Senna. It would not be impossible for a team like 1970's to win without him, and keep in mind that he did not play in 1962.
If he had the crazy "bananerismo" (thanks to a Spanish user in the Libertadores thread for the word) of Maradona instead, I believe nothing would change. He would be loved even as a temperamental, assertive, mistake-making person.
But his general elegance was the icing on the cake.
I tell you, it's very hard for a Brazilian to be like that. Brazil is a cynic (in the modern sense of the word), dog-eat-dog country. More than in almost any place, it's hard to be "good", i.e. not to play games with people, just do one's job and grow his own things. "Humbleness" is a buzzword for the average idiot here but people don't really know its meaning. The only dividing things he ever done were some political opinions, he was in favor of the military regime and the Sao Paulo state governor Paulo Maluf, linked with such regime. But only idiots put a man down for politics.
The documentary is beautiful. Actually it was when I became a "fan".
