Angolan Man Appears in Court Following Chain Attack on Irish Woman

A MAN who has been charged with the alleged assault of a city centre shop assistant will have his case heard at the District Court on November 25 next. Bail was granted on September 22 to a 43-year-old Angolan man who was charged with an attack on a city centre store worker at her place of work on William Street.

Rogerio Joao, with an address at Apartment 6, Catherine Street, is charged with breaches of sections 6 of the Public Order Act and section 3 assault contrary to the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997. Having been beaten with a chain as she served a customer, the lady shop assistant was hospitalised and treated for her injuries.

Joao is also charged with using threatening and abusive behaviour, as well as assault.

Judge Eamon O’Brien previously heard evidence of the arrest charge and caution of the accused.

Following review, the DPP has directed that the matter is to be dealt with at the District Court.

An application was made at the time for bail by John Herbert, solicitor, and the State did not object, subject to conditions. Bail in the case was extended and the matter was adjourned for a plea or a date for the hearing to be set.

Conditions of the bail include that the Angolan man is to stay away from the shop on William Street where the alleged incident is said to have occurred; to have no contact whatsoever with the injured party and that is to include, facebook, bebo, text or any form of electronic and personal communications, and to sign on daily between 9am and 9pm at Henry Street Garda station.

Judge Eamon O’Brien remanded on continuing bail until later next month.

A BABY boom is exploding across South Wales with more infants being born in the last 12 months than in the previous 20 years.

The increase in the birth rate has reversed a near decade of decline in baby births and is also reflected Wales-wide.

For the first time in 20 years, the births in Cardiff’s two maternity units for the past year are set to reach nearly 6,000 after falling to an all-time low in 2002 of just 4,700 babies.

Experts believe the boom can be partly explained by the influx of eastern European immigrants who are arriving in the UK when already pregnant and higher-earning local families deciding they can afford three rather than two children.

There are 10,000 Poles in Wales, and most of them have been here since 2004/2005, so I don't believe what the `experts` say. We've got a baby boom in my city too and we have very few of them. I noticed this article on Stormfront, none of the members there know what they're talking about.
