Despite obvious difference among Indo-European languages I don't feel they look off to my ears when in comparison to African or Asian languages. SE Asian and Chinese languages (Sino-Tibetan and Tai) sounds funny to me tho. My favorite one is Arabic despite how weird it sounds for non-natives bcs when you finally start to study it you can notice how rich it is.

Nothing against that assessment but motivating it by how a Balkan Gypo speaks it seems somewhat unfair, lol.

Disclaimer: I don't hate these languages, they're just the bottom of the list, when we're talking about world languages
Many in common! I didn't put purtuguese because it's obvious haha (btw, hindi is a language with retroflex consonants, the most famous one)

    Mordovian

    Chinese
    Vietnamese
Thai (tonal langs as a whole)

average Joe can easily confuse it with Hungarian. Vocabulary has nothing in common tho except maybe few dozen words only linguists can recognize.

I can't believe they have same vibe and they separated enormously long time ago, thousands of years have passed!

When you hear Finnish as Indo-European native speaker it sounds like Hungarian except you can't understand anything.
The Mordovian languages sound like Russian, but with a Finno-Ugric vocabulary. They do not contain any foreign sounds for the Russian ear, the only difference is a slightly different approach to stresses. The Mordovian languages are in stark contrast to the neighboring Volga-Finnish languages, which are full of exotic sounds for Russian and sound like completely foreign languages.

I think Lithuanian sounds quite Russian-like. I think it is the melody of the language and palatalised consonants that remind me Russian.

Latvian OTOH though does not give me this impression.
