Germany plans to legalise recreational cannabis

Germany's coalition government has agreed on a plan to legalise recreational cannabis use among adults.

Possession of up to 30g (1oz) for personal use would be allowed. Licensed shops and pharmacies would sell it.

The plan still requires approval by the European Commission and German parliament. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said the plan could become law in 2024.

In the EU only Malta has legalised recreational cannabis.

The Netherlands has not gone as far as the German plan - under Dutch law, the sale of small quantities of cannabis in "coffee shops" is tolerated.

The German plan would also allow home cultivation of three cannabis plants per adult.

The move was envisaged in the coalition government's manifesto, announced last year. The Social Democrats (SPD) lead the coalition, with the Greens and liberal Free Democrats as partners.

Several countries have legalised limited use of medicinal cannabis. Canada and Uruguay have also legalised recreational cannabis.

In the US, 37 states and Washington DC have legalised medical cannabis, while 19 states have approved it for recreational use. That represents well over 40% of the US population.

Funny how nobody mentions huge brain damage weed-consumption causes. I know few potheads and their IQ dropped to the point they are barely functional at higher level today.
It should not be legal except for medical use.

I don't smoke weed, but I know pretty damn well that getting it is almost as trivial as buying a loaf of bread anyway. Point is, whoever wants to smoke weed can and will do it easily regardless of what law says without facing any non-trivial legal issues. At least in here - if weed got legalized tomorrow, not much would really change. Can't speak for Germany, but my guess would be that the situation is probably about the same.

They should not do such a thing.

Sure, it's every persons right to do whatever they want with their body, and in the end no one can stop their will, but playing with such substances will put you into a different state, and your brain will based on this dynamic.

Not even some doctors know how to use medicine and how it impacts the body...

I think there is a lot of brainwashing/propaganda spread in social media, and so young people hear about such claims daily, and are therefore normalized to the idea of legalizing.

I don't want to get conspiratorial but I wonder if there is any hidden agenda behind this?

More people neurologically satisfied by artificial means (drugs) makes them not complain (dopamine = their brain is happy).

It's same everywhere. But you know how people are. You give them a finger they will eventually take a hand.
It's better not to make that step.

Yeah, in Brazil is prty comum see many teens and youngs (generally 13 - 20 years old) who uses weed, drink a lot, uses vapes, its clear the brain dmg most of these people say they are just relaxed, but they are psychologically incapable, many can't finish phrases, be rational or at least stand up, and the worst thing is that this is even after the hallucinating effect wears off, they look like undead, it's sad to see people with my age getting dumb and brainless while I study and struggle, the first time the drug can be said as just a relaxant, but after a few uses it creates an emotional and physical dependence, the guy completely loses it life, I'm reading a Brazilian book about it, the name is: "Drugs, the best experience is not using them" its prty good one
