Dunno, horror movies seem a bit immature for someone my age they seem best for teens and early 20s people.

What makes the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre amazing is how little on-screen gore there actually is. It is a violent story filled with lots of horrible imagery but, most of the actual violence occurs off-camera. Because of this, it has aged better than the gorefests with the closeups that haven't aged too well.

This might apply to the sub-genre of teen slashers.

However, I would argue that many horror films rise above the basic trappings of pretty young people getting slaughtered.

Fritz Lang's "M" and Polanski's "repulsion" are two films that all film buffs should see at least once.

Released a few months ago, Zach Creggerls "barbarian" is the best most inventive film I have seen in a long time. It was breath of fresh air compared to the regulation and endless superhero movies that seem to be the norm these days.
