I did not change my opinion, I see Hungary as semi western and saw it as semi western 1 year ago too. I see Slovaks and Croats the same way. I only claimed Hungarians don't see Austria as rival and that Austria is not the closest country to us. Hungary is not only part of EU, it's also in NATO and other western organizations. We have western religion, western script and western laws. Hungary chose to integrate into to the broader western world after the Soviet era although current Hungarian government is trying to change that.

Hungary is obviously much more similar to the West than Congo is.

What was 200 years ago, and what is happening nowadays are two different things with totally different age and peoples. Hungary is not western european, but a former socialist/communist country, east european in every way.
Hungary is not searching itself, hungarians are just hungarians, an unique ethnicity in East Europe. This is how overwhelming majority of hungarians see themselves. Some lefist hungarian from Budapest have western identity, some have turkic identity, but these are just a tiny minority. Btw i have never heard any hungarian to talking about slavic brothership. I have no idea how did you get this info. Hungarians feel commonship with other east europeans for historical reasons (communist heritage, similar culture), but not ethnically or linguistically what exist between various slavs. Hungarians are not slavs.
And of course you can cherrypick such examples like Albania vs Estonia, but basically east europeans are very similar from Petrograd to Beograd, and from Rostov to Prag, because we had same fate after 1945 which determined the identity/culture of many generation. If im watching a russian or serbian or polish movie i can see such societies, problems and peoples what exist in Hungary too. And not all east european are slavic, but there are hungarians, romanians, moldavians, baltics. By East Europe i dont mean only slavs.

Good try. In Hungary it was not about Stalin, but the uprising. BTW, we have many Lenin statues, maybe some Stalin's too, idk. USSR gave them and we have less reasons to hate Sovjet statues, ha ha.

I did not say that there is no any difference between east european countries, i said they are very similar. Hungary is a such country that has balkanite, ukrainian and west slavic neighbours, so i can compare it with Balkans, the Russian World and west slavs, the difference is minimal, i see much more difference between hungarians and austrians. If you leave the hungarian border to Austria you will see huge differences, its not true between hungarians and romanians, or between hungarians and serbs, or between hungarians and ukrainians/slovaks. Iz has nothing to do with my "sympathy towards Russians", its just the reality.

You are right, Hungary has similarities with Balkan. But i would not say West Slavs and Russians remind each other. Poles are different not only from Russians but also from many Ukrainians. Russians don't have European vibes what Poles have. Russians are own type of thing. Like lost northern and eastern cousins of Ukrainians. West Slavs are way too different.

If anything, Russia has been constantly on backfoot when it comes to engaging with the west. Russia's main problem for majority of their recent history were Turks.
