I just wanna know why everyone is obsessed with iran. Not necessarily attacking the OP, but im just curious. Reality is, Iranians dont give a shit about whether they look like arabs, turks, afghans, or whoever. They care about Iran, and Iran only. That goes for every ethnicity in Iran.

These images give a misleading impression and imo don't give the Iranian players justice.

On TV in motion and good color they look simply West Asian/Mediterranean folks. Even those who have been brandded as "South Asian shifted" look nothing like average or typical South Asians.

This guy is actually from North Iran

And live on tv in full motion he looks simply West Asian/Middle Eastern/Mediterranean. More like an Arab than anything close to Pakistani to me.

Here a different shot of him. Images can often be misleading.

Also people falsely think like there is a direct connection between the Persian and South Asian World and are surprised why barely any of the Iranian or Persians look South Asian.

Many People still don't understand that there is a contact population between the Persian and South Asian world. And this population are the Balochi who reside inbetween Persians and South Asians. They are basically the barrier and at the same time transition between both. This is visible in the DNA and looks of the Balochi.
Balochis are the natives of the Baluchistan&SIstan and Eastern parts of Hormozgan province. In Pakistan they are the natives of the Balochistan province. Balochis are genetically intermediate from Persians to Pakistani Sindhis.

Balochistan is the land which serves as a filter between South Asia and West Iranian world

This is why there is no direct contact between South Asia and Persians. Any South Asian DNA which could reach Persians would come via the Balochi areas and therefore be maximally filtered down already, because the Balochi themselves only have around 10-15% ASI DNA.

Another factor is that many people have the false geographic assumption that Persian speaking territories in Southeast Iran are geographically closer to South Asia and should therefore have more a South Asian shift. This is incorrect too.

To give an example. The ancient city of Bam in the Kerman province, which is one of the most southeastern cities in the Persian speaking world, is roughly the same distance from Larkana in Pakistan, which is one of the most Western Cities in South Asian Pakistan, as it is to Basra in Iraq!

    Air Distance between
Bam (Kerman, Iran) and Larkana (Karachi, Pakistan) = 980 Km
Bam (Kerman, Iran) and Basra (Iraq) = 1028 km

Balochis just like Kurds are a special case in Iran, in the way that they are not Iranian proper (the state) but transitional people both in identity and geography sense.

There is also not a single Balochi in the squad which explains why non of them show visible South Asian features.

Sidenote: Just because a individual could pass as South Asian it doesn't mean this person looks South Asian.
Sardar Azmoun could pass as some of the isolated South Asian populations in the mountains. But this is because these people who resemble him look Iranian/Caucasian/Steppe. And not because they look South Asian.

To underline my statement that East Iran outside historic Balochistan does not look physically South Asian shifted or even much Central Asian.

Roozbeh Cheshmi who is from East Iran (Khorasan province). Looks more West Asian or even Arab than anything South Asian

Another example is Ahmad Nourollahi who is from Northeast Iran (Golestan province)

Another misconception is that Persians from the Southern coastle area look mixed African/Arab/Balochi
It is true that there is a signficant number of African, Balochi and Arab minorities but they are not representative for the native Persian population there.

For example Mehdi Taremi who is from the Bushehr Province on the coast of the Persian gulf in South Iran.

This one is probably the closest "ethnic Persian" in the set. He is from Shiraz, Fars province in Southwest Iran.
    Hossein Hosseini

These here are from Ahvaz Southwest Iran in Khuzestan province which is mixed Arab, Persian, Kurdish.
    Saman Ghoddos

Amir Abedzadeh is from Abadan also from Khuzestan province in Southwest Iran

It's not like Iranians in East turn South Asian and in South to Arabs & Africans

people forget that south asians, such as punjabis, sindhis and kashmiris, are even seperated by their western neighbors with the 1000 miles tall mountains, from north to south. This is example why tajiks from example khorog, badakhshan, tajikstan, look way more like turks and azeris, despite living 1000 of miles away from them, compared to south asians who lives 200 miles away from them, but are seperated by the mountains. Though badakhshis are a more extreme case.

But yes, even balochs are seperated by mountains, so imagine iranians more west of them.

Correct, there are also deserts and high mountains in and around Balochistan which on top of the distance also work as barriers.

The point is ASI DNA is descending from India up to North and West. At the time we reach Balochistan it is already down to 10-15% by filtering through dozens of ethnic groups inbetween. And then Balochistan serves as border/filter between the Persian speaking world and South Asia, which is why in Kerman and East Iran in general it becomes filtered down to an average of 5%

Balochis do not look like Indians. Don't get confused by google images which are from outliers in Balochistan and mostly done by western tourists who are interested in the African mixed minority of Makran and upload these images under hashtag Baloch.

The average ethnic Baloch look more like this.

to be fair, dont punjabis get like 20-25% ASI?
Also, dont think its that low for east iranians, though certainly lower than balochs(7% ASI? well, of course not with turkmen and some persians that just look the same as other persians from example tehran).
