Default 3 films that shaped your life

Name 3 films that influenced your life the most, for whatever reasons. You can also write why if you wish. From storytelling, aestetic, atmospheric, any reasons.

    Mine:

    1. Boys don't cry

    2. 8 Mile

    3. Empire of the Sun

I was highly influenced and identify a lot with my life from these 3 films, so reasons are of personal nature.

They really marked me because I must have been at a developmental age and suddenly seeing such facets of the human being marked me when a few years before I was reading children's stories and I also knew which side I was on.

According to oral family tradition E-FT155550 comes from a deserter of Napoleon's troops (1808-1813) who stayed in Spain and changed his surname.

Its amusing yet dark look at the fears and vanities of humanity have left a mark on me.

The thought of being sucked into my television set into demonic versions of TV programmes has disturbed me ever since.

My original nick when joining this forum was La vita e bella. A touching film about a happy-go-lucky Jewish man who marries a Gentile woman and, when Italy is occupied during WWII, tries to hide his son from the horrors of life in a concentration camp.

After pondering I can say that no film shaped my life and actually no one even influenced it.

But what is coming closest to that is maybe what film made the biggest lasting impression on me. And there I can name two.

    1. Alien

It's a wonderful film, very thrilling and horizon-widening and it has a lot of the non-human-made scenery made by the great artist Gieger. I was 12 when I saw it so that will have elevated the impression. I remember having had somewhat "spaghetti legs" when leaving the cinema.

    2. Gesichter des Todes (original title Faces of Death)

It's actually a bad film. It shows deaths in various situations and is made up like a documentary. It's today assessed that abt. 60% of the scenes are real and 40% are made for the film. It forces you to take part in dyings and shows you things you never have seen before, however, it was like that for me. I saw it when I was abt. 20 and only on video. I didn't like it but after it had been temporarily forbidden in 46 countries I wanted to have seen it.

I'll not forget any of these films for the rest of my life.

"Star Wars" was my fave movie as a kid. I almost drove my parents crazy from ranting and raving about it after I saw it. I had a ton of items (art, books, toys, etc.) linked to it. I'm still kicking myself for giving away my action figures!

"The Godfather" is my favorite film now. It brings forth fond memories of my days in the Gambino Mafia crime family. It's one of the few flicks that I could watch again and again. It's definitely a desert island pick, which makes no sense since there's no power there.

"The Big Bang" is a documentary that I recommend for all of you. It's not about astronomy, but even science geeks will appreciate it. All kinds of people, from all kinds of backgrounds, share their views on varied aspects of life. This is my pick that's not boring and predictable.

I have a bunch of honorable mentions. My first two picks here are favorite films, and the last one profoundly demonstrates how connected we are to one another, and it helps that one of "The Sopranos" cast, Sirica (an actual organized crime guy at the time), gives his views on religion. My guess is that most members' choices will be before 2016. The woke mob ruin all that they touch.

I loved that one, especially since I read the book before I saw the movie. Asbury wrote books on crime in Chicago and San Francisco's Barbary Coast too, and he would write one on Washington if he was still with us.
