"The material for the study was collected during the 2021 expedition: the settlements of the Onega Peninsula (Onega Coast and Summer Coast) and the western (Onega) fragment of the Winter Coast were surveyed
Of the other Russian populations, only the Russians of the Kostroma region (d=0.50) and the Mologa population of the Yaroslavl region (d=0.63) show relative genetic similarity with the Pomors.
Among other peoples of Russia, the Vepsians (d=0.43) and northern Karelians (d=0.46) are genetically closest to the Onega Pomors
However, the Onega Pomors show the greatest genetic similarity with the peoples of foreign Northern Europe: the genetic distance from the Pomors to the Swedes and Finns (d=0.28) is the same as the average distance between the Pomor populations (d=0.28), and the distance to the Saami gene pool half as much (d=0.14).
The genetic distances to the Scandinavians (Danes, Norwegians, Swedes) follow the opposite trend: the Pomors of the Summer and Zimny coast are closest to them, and the distance from the Pomors of the Onega coast to the Scandinavians is twice as large. At the same time, if the Pomors of the Zimny Coast are close only to the Scandinavians, then the Pomors of the Summer Coast also show a certain genetic similarity with a wide range of European populations - from Germans (d=0.36) to Irish (d=0.65).The genetic differences between the Novgorodians are great even from the Pomors of the Onega coast, and from the populations of other Pomors they are even greater."
