Actually, Greek Orthodox Christianity was and has been quite different from either Catholicism or Protestantism. And Greeks are genotypically and phenotypically closer to Jews than to many Europeans.

Ehh. Greeks, like Jews, have quite a bit of genetic diversity. Cretans may be quite similar to Ashkenazim, but Thessalians and Cappadocians both aren't. But both of these latter groups are closer to Ashkenazim than each other.

While it's true orthodox countries are the most different europeans when it comes to customs it's quite a stretch to imply that somehow that fact makes them similar to jews.

It's not that Greece (or other Orthodox countries) are especially similar to Jews. Rather, it is that they themselves have often been regarded as separate and 'other' by the rest of Europe. (The same remains especially true of Russia today, and is a phenomenon that well preceeds Communism even).

I always tend to put Greeks, Jews, North Caucasians, Trans Caucasians, Albanians and Persians in the same basket. Geography, history, genetics and phenotype.
