Default People of mix ethnic background attached more to one ancestry than the others

As an American, I come across all types of ethnic groups and combinations. From my experience, people of mixed ancestry tend to be attached to one ancestry more than the other. For example, I grew up with a kid who was 1/4th German, 1/4th Russian, 1/4th Polish, and 1/4th Scottish. He was more attached to his German heritage. I suspect it's because his last name was German. I also had a friend who was 3/4th Irish and 1/4th Italian. He was much more attached to his Italian ancestry. His surname was Italian. I knew a guy who was 3/4th Irish and 1/4th Hungarian. He always referred to himself as Irish, but one day, he casually mentioned he was 1/4th Hungarian. He has an Irish surname.

    What is your experience?

Yeah, some people decide to "pick" one ethnicity, from what I have observed, and others just call themselves "white americans"

He claims to be half-Italian and half-Irish. He reminds me of Irish-American comedian Bob Kelly.

I don't understand the point of posting this guy since it doesn't indicate he prefers one ancestry over the other. What does the alleged reaction by ticket agents have to do with how he views himself?

Sometimes it's probably due to projecting the character of that ancestor, or your relationship with them, onto that ethnicity as a whole.
For example, if you are 3/4 Irish and 1/4 Portuguese, but get along best with your Portuguese grandfather, or simply find him more admirable in comparison to relatives of your other sides, you might get disporportionally attached to the Portuguese part of your ancestry. And vice-versa... If you don't get along with him, or simply find him less admirable, you might even choose to totally refrain from identifying with or even mentioning that part of your ancestry.

No, lowland Scots are actually Germanic it is not so dirty little secret that guys mix is probably close to East German. Like someone who is a mix of English, Irish and German might look kind of English.

Real Americans are sui generis WASPs the further America gets from that standard the more and more America will keep falling apart.

Interesting you would say that: my first two examples had a close relationship with their paternal grandfathers (especially the friend who was 1/4th Italian). I never met the other set of grandparents of either one.

I'm normally attached to Russian ancestry first due to father, second due to Russian culture, nation being dominant, superior to Ukrainain ancestry. Preferring Ukrainian over Russian is being a mental loser. I'm not racist or chauvinist, I'm cultural supremacist, who think that cultures may be superior over others. Belonging to empire is way more honourable than belonging to some tribe. Roman, Byzantine, Austro-Hungarian, Russian imperial culture is way more important than tribalist bullshit and cringe tribal states.

And yea, I think that Ukrainians become the best Russians, most quality ones. Culture is fruitful for tribes.

I'll be sure to go back in time and explain to his 11-year-old self that he was more Germanic than he thought. Wait here. I'll be back in a few.
