You are right, 1/9 would be for the sums to coincide if we reduced the results to 1 single figure. ( a sum of digits that is = 0 is not possible).

So it would have to be calculated based on how he wanted to group the dates into groups of two digits.

All depends of the year interval of the dates.

I mean, if we count the last 100 years, since Janvier 1923 to December 2022. Do you know how many possible results we get? You would be surprised.

I am speaking about just the probability of getting the same number suming the numbers of dates grouped in 2 digits, not about the probability of coincidence between of getting the same sum choosing 2 random dates.

Anyway, we have had hundreds of wars, you are showing a coincidence just between 3 , so just the date of third war could have been chosen, not the two first between them, that would be random. I don´t know if you understand the point. The curious coincidence would be the third date in the serie, not the gap between the two first.

If I did the things well, the rank of possible results of summing dates in groups of 2 digits from January 1 1923 to December 31 2022 is (44,86) so 27 possible results in 100 years.

It's a very botched demonstration (not actually any demonstration just some type of visual casual test), so "any but" that may arise is justifiable because they're urging me to dine.
