(1) West vs Islamic world. Both have a messianic, universalistic streak where they think they should take over the rest of the world for the rest of humanity's benefit. The main difference is that, whereas the Islamic world's energy is still largely motivated by religion, the West has secularised these same tendencies.

(2) Apartheid vs Communism. While very different in many ways, there are important similarities: both are totalitarian ideologies which deny the full reality of human experience and, in particular, divide people into the saved (White people, the proletariat) and the damned (Black people, the bourgeoisie).
