There would be no Christianity without the ancient Greeks. Nobody is promoting the "Ancient Greeks". It's just that Greece is filled with ancient ruins and toponyms that remain the same. Wouldn't you want to learn the history of the places you are visiting?

The Russians, Georgians and Ukrainians have their own churches. I am not sure they are interested to see the birthplace of St. John in Patmos though, they'd rather visit the island's beaches.

I am not sure what you mean by pilgrimage. Nobody is interested and nobody cares except a few old ladies who have nowadays become an extinct breed.
