Was Joy Division a satire/parody band?

Knowing the horrible british humor sense and the ascension of german electronic based music during 1970's, sometimes I think Joy Division was to be satire/parody band, but it was taken seriously and deviated from its original purpose.

Some Joy Division music looks even a parody:




Originally Joy Division was the very visceral punk band "Warsaw", but due imposition of producers they incorporated the electronic element in its sound, declaredly trying to emulate the german electronic music ascending in those times. Despite many people think, Joy Division was not that hype during their active time, in the end of 1970's, but just they emerged as a "revival" during Vapourwave phenomenon during 1990's, and reemerged again with Doomer scene currently.

Now Joy Division is admired worldwide, but there is a real danger of misinterpretation of their work, out of their context. Then we want to know the opinion from who followed this history more closely.

A parody of what?

As a Latin person you don't understand that there is an undercurrent of self-aware humour in most British music, and culture generally. The name and imagery of the band would have been chosen just to be edgy, like Sid Vicious wearing a Swastika around that time, or Lemmy wearing the Iron Cross.

Stupid theory, there was no obligation to sound like a German electronic band in the 70s British music scene, that was a novelty.

Considering that their singer and songwriter suffered from depression and killed himself at 23 years old, "parody" isn't really what i think of when i think of Joy Division.
