Default Did Ustaše Croatians really believe they had significant German genetics?

During WWII "The Ustaše accepted that Croats are part of the Dinaric race, but rejected the idea that Croats are primarily Slavic, claiming they are primarily descended from Germanic roots with the Goths."

Considering that Croats are mostly Slavic, I found this passage surprising. Did Ustaše really think of themselves as Germanic?

I doubt it but than again have no idea really. There were several theories about origins of Croats since 19th century and Gothic theory was one of them. I don't think it was important topic to them tbh.

There were political implications in claiming to be Germanic. But less was known about the origins of nations back then, and it wouldn't have been seen as insane to say this. I mean you still have some people illiterate in genetics that would claim Croats are Slavophone Illyrians.

We just believe we are Croatian. Nobody identifies with Being Germanic. At least the last few centuries. We don't even speak German. Well I do. We also identity with being balkanci aka Balkanese. Our identity is simple, hercegovci, Hrvati, katolici.

I don't know how it was 70 years ago
