I think they have been english speakers for centuries. If they didn't abandon english when they became independent in 1919 they are not gonna do it now.

In 1919 it was the perfect timing, english wasn't as widepread as it is now. There was no media, no TV, no internet. But i guess english was their language back then already.

I could see Catalonia or Basque Country abolish spanish if they became independent to try to have their own language.

No one cares what you think. The Irish people don't exist to please Spanish imbeciles.

Irish and British/English aren't enemies and there's no one closer in Europe, much to the disappointment of many foreigners who want them to all be venomous IRA members. The English language belongs to the Irish now as much as the English; some of the greatest literary figures of English have come from Ireland, as well as all internationally famous Irish music and film being in English.
