Yeah, I heard about this yesterday. It has been claimed that the amount of chemicals that have been released into the environment is much more devastating than what has been said by the public officials of the government.

The rail infrastructure seems to also have been largely in a decay. This is disappointing since this is supposed to be a first world county.

This was done by a private rail company, Norfolk Southern, and they didn't properly disclose what toxic chemicals they were transporting. It's really nothing like Chernobyl which didn't involve private entities.

I meant to say that the way it was/wasn't regulated is not on par with other first world countries (such as here in Sweden). As for involving private parties or not, it's not really relevant because it has more to do with how the parties are managing these compounds; how careful they are in such activities. To not disclose the transport of such chemicals would be considered very corrupt for first-world standards.
