I eat potatoes during longer lents only, when it's hard to avoid.

in some places high consumption is associated with individual farming, some potatoes simply go to feed pigs. Here, some older people habitually buy a bag of potatoes for the winter, and then, when it sprouts, they throw away most of them.

I do like Spanish food more than Italian, unpopular opinion, but I'll die on this hill. More protein laden, plenty of good stews, often with chickpeas, which is genius! Never change, Spain. Now, the one Portuguese dish I remember having was a called cataplana or something like that, pretty good, but not worth swapping loyalties. What are your most popular dishes?
I'd expect Portugal to be more fond of tea as well.

In theory I also prefer Spanish food to Italian, it's a familiar cuisine that uses almost all the same ingredients that we use. The reality however is that I haven't had many good dining experiences in Spain. Maybe I have been unlucky or in this case, the fact that I am familiar with the ingredients takes away some of the element of surprise. But I think I was really unlucky in the restaurants, nowadays in Spain most restaurants are very tourist oriented and don't always excel in quality (some ingredients are clearly frozen). The Spanish like to snack and the concept of varied small plates, I prefer the Portuguese restaurants approach, to focus on a well served and well proportioned dish.
Amęijoas ŕ Bulhăo Pato, Polvo ŕ Lagareiro, Bacalhau com Natas, Bacalhau ŕ Brás, Açorda Alentejana, Pastel de Nata, Queijo da Serra da Estrela, Leităo ŕ Bairrada, Alheira de Mirandela, Caldeirada de Peixe, Cozido ŕ Portuguesa or Francesinha, these are some of the dishes and delicacies I would recommend among many others. I don't know how you can try them in the US though, unless there is a Portuguese restaurant nearby or you know a Portuguese family that has access to the necessary ingredients. Iberian cuisine is not easily franchised as lets say, pasta dishes, hence it is not so popular or well known.
Although we were the first country to introduce oriental tea to Europe and the afternoon tea culture to England, Portuguese people are more fond of coffee, espresso to be more precise.

Tea Consumption. Not surprised Ireland is 2nd after Turkey.
I'm surprised Ireland isn't no 1 in potato consumption. Oh well another stereotype bites the dust.

También echo muchos polvos, y también se me nota.
Tú en cambio te debes matar a pajas, de ahí la alopecia, jeje.
These maps about everything are not very reliable. For sure Spaniards and Portuguese eat the same products.

This map doesn't take into account the amount the potatoes account for as for total intake
