sort of a cool idea. afghanistan has a deep history before the arrival of islam tbh. ancient iranian folk culture, zoroastrianism, buddhism, even the greeks were there for a bit.

Afghanistan is completely fine without Buddhism or other Indian polytheistic religions. These poly religions were not native to the land were were brought back to Afghanistan from India by the Kushans during their invasion and conquest of northern India.
On the other hand, Zoroastrianism was a native religion and if Islam never existed then that would be the natural religion for modern day Afghanistan to follow.
