Why anime character don't look white

I was watching a Japanese movie. Female lead had light skin. Her cousin had dark skin and her uncle had tanned skin.
So she is white her cousin is black and her uncle is Mexican? Logically that's not now how race work. Family belong to same race

That movie protagonist. . Based on pure look he look more like her cousin than her real cousin . Well he is too young to be uncle but never mind.
Maybe looks are used to show personality and giving interesting character design? That goes with eye color hair color skin color. All anime character would look. Same if they had same hair color and skin color
