Default Zelensky wants to change Russia's name to "Muscovy"

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, is seriously considering officially changing the name of Russia in "Muscovy“. The idea was the subject of an online petition signed by over 25 people. “The issue raised in the petition requires careful consideration both in terms of its historical and cultural context, as well as taking into account possible international legal consequences,” Zelensky said.

The president instructed the prime minister, Denys Shmygal, to "involve scientific institutions" and address the issue from all aspects. The Russian response was not long in coming, with Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova speaking today of an "anti-Russian" campaign. “Here is another proof of the attempt to make Ukraine an 'anti-Russia',” Zakharova wrote on Telegram. The petition to rename Russia, published in recent months on Zelensky's website, obtained the 25 votes needed for its official consideration. Deputy Speaker of the Russian State Duma Boris Chernyshov earlier commented on the petition saying "initiatives like that can only be treated with a smile".

Many Ukrainians in Ukraine want to change Zelensky. I hear from them via Internet. It's a pity there's no special operation to change Zelensky yet.
    Do what you should.

Once Russia falls apart there might be some post-Russian shard that picks up that name. Probably Moscow itself and several regions/oblasts around Moscow.

In France, England, Germany, Italy, the name for Russia was Muscovy in 1500s and 1600s, but there has never been a negative connotation to it.

The way modern Ukrainians and to a lesser extent other Eastern Europeans (Poles, Lithuanians) use it is completely bizzare and it has naturally caused antagonism towards this term among Russians.

In a way this is understandable, because Russia is a multi-ethnic state and originally Rus meant only east Slavs. In Finnish Russia is Venäjä, figuring the country where Vens lived, like Lat - Latvija showing similarity in Latvian.
The etymological explanation is that somewhere in the past the Finns called Slavs as Vends.
