If 3.4% were only the self-identified then you would see the South Asian component seep into the majority population. In reality, the SA component is around 1% among Romanians, close to error margins. So no, the gypsy population is not much bigger, at most 4%, including all mixed gypsies.

I am asking again, what is the source for this nonsense?

In Borat's gypsy village (where the movie was shot) half of the people look gypsy but according to official statistics it's a 100% ethnic Romanian village because the people living there declared themselves as "ethnic Romanian".

All his premises were proved to be nonsensical, and Ion Basescu himself later admitted that in another thread about Bucharest/Romania.

Ion Basescu, like most Moldovans, deflect the Russian/Soviet stereotype (created deliberately by Russian propaganda) that Moldovans are (at least part-) gypsies on Romanians. It's a cheap trick.

Btw Hungarian_Master is partly right, many gypsy start to assimilate into the society, their birth rate is lower now than it was 15-20 years ago. If this trend continues, then they will not overgrow europeans for sure, so we must treat my map with criticism, its just the worse scenario, but it can happens.

Low IQ people breeding more than high IQ people is a global phenomenon, it's not something specific to Gypsies. You will find the same phenomenon in other places that don't have Gypsies. In the past having sex meant having children, that ain't the case nowadays as higher IQ people use birth control and do family planning, lower IQ people don't.

Keeping the gypsies poor and low educated will surely get you this result (high birth rates).

Mixing between European and Gypsies happened but mixed people were mostly assimilated into the Gypsy community in the past. So a gypsy with Romanian/Hungarian admixture is more common than the other way around. That is why Gypsies are so diverse, I've seen gypsyies that look straight out of India, others look clearly mixed and lighter / more euro. Sandu Ciorba is a famous Gypsy singer from Romania and he looks way more ethnic Romanian than Gypsy.
