Default Food “Stereotypes” That Annoy You

What are notions that people have regarding your (or another country’s) cuisine that annoys the piss out of you? In the case of the States, I’d say it’s the ad-nauseam “it’s nothing but hamburgers and hot dogs..” mentality, as if America emerged on the earth sometime in 1970.

Media has definitely driven that American stereotype. I've never even had a big mac. But aside from that, you can get pretty much any type of cuisine in the states if you live in a semi populated area.

African-americans complaining that "white people food" is unseasoned. Shit, do I really need to put 5 different brands of powdered herbs and spices for my food to taste good? This nowadays applies to some impressionable whites too.

The entire universe of Italian food. In one side, the madmen who make those horrible, over the top dishes drowned in heavy cream, garlic, bad cheese and even worse tomato sauce and have the balls to call it Italian.

On the other, the culinary bugmen that complain about every single technique and ingredient and rule out diaspora food. My brother in Christ, do you really think that me, a college student in Argentina, will buy a piece of Pecorino Romano DOP made with the milk of a cow called Giovanna at exactly 1km of the Stadio Olimpico? Yeah I want to eat that Carbonara, but I also want to eat for the rest of the month.

Indeed . In Brazil (at least far from the coast) we are pretty minimalistic when it comes to seasoning. The typical dish will have a sofritto of garlic and onion + parsley and/or chives. Yeah you can improve, but quality ingredients with quality technique don't need heavy seasoning.

Yeah even white Americans seem to put a lot of things in their plate once they get served in restaurants (seen them asking in Europe too), like the chef forgot to put the salt or any seasoning in his recipe. That and the absolutely giant ass glasses of water annoys me, or anything else as long as it contains loads of ice cubs all year long. Any water is gonna taste like crap with ice cubs duh, you want it brought to you cold maybe but not drowned with icebergs.

I swear most cars nowadays sport multiple cup holders because of that. I never felt the need to sip something to hydrate every 5 minutes while driving, it's so odd. You drink before the trip or between the stops but feel the need to constantly do it like this wtf.

French wine is incredibly overrated, for much less price you can get Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and even Hungarian wines a thousand times better.

Also it doesn't annoy me but I really don't understand what is so great about pasta. I would much rather have a meat or seafood dish.

That is why a textbook Italian meal has a primo and secondo piatto. First, you get a sensible portion of a staple like pasta or risotto, then you get a plate of meat or vegetables.
