Dear TA Romanians, How Does the Romance Spoken Below Sound to You?

my mom's Moldovan variety is barely intelligible for non-Moldovans and it's inside Romania, so it's mindblowing they speak such Romanian in Serbia, though I know Timok is traditionally Vlach.

The Romance speakers of Central Serbia certainly have their own Vlach identiy but the majority are descendants of Romanian settlers.

I understand 90% of the words, basically I understand everything he says. Half of the words are pronounced like in Romanian but the rest of them not quite. Some of them have a missing letter or a different letter here and there that might confuse you if you don't pay very much attention. Like for example the word "pónzi" that in Romanian would be translated in "pânză".

Romanian in a bit more archaic form with some Greek words and Greek pronunciation in it, but still much less Greek than the old Ruthenian/Slavic words in Moldovan older (Vaslui) dialect.

I think Vlachs formed there, between Thessaly and Timok, at most between Thessaly and mountaineous Banat/Apuseni, and then at some point expanded elsewhere. they are most recent into northern Transylvania, Bucovina, Moldova and Dobrudja, where Romanian-speaking populations are just Romanianized Slavs and whatever other local populations they found.

also the initial Romance populations of the Balkans must have been quite mixed in origin and quite non-Italic, basically local Balkan and Oriental linguistically Romanized veterans with local women, so the Romance language isn't local per se to the Balkans, however it's interesting how it formed, survived, thrived etc, though speakers should understand they don't come from Rome, genetically I don't know elsewhere, but in Romania common opinion is they are Romans, with some Dacian in it, while in practice I suppose they are totally a different mix of origins (just a mix of Neolithic leftovers with a mix of later invasions leftovers, like Scythians, Celts, Germanics, over which other invasion leftovers came in each epoch, from Slavs after 500 CE to Steppe Turkics to Roma in the Middle Ages, to Greeks after 1700s to Jews after 1800s). I find this more real approach more fascinating to think where my genes came from than fantasize about Rome/Italic peninsula. just an opinion, don't shoot

Is this what they call Aromanian? Sounds nice regardless, I speak two romance languages, but they don't really sound like this.

This is different than any balkan romance (or whatever you wanna call it) language I've heard before. It's not very understandable. I can understand words. It's probably also the pronunciation. I'm sure if I see it written it will be much easier. At some point he started to speak more understandable then again not much.

some bits are just as Romanian, with the difference that they are pronounced in a Greek fashion (фудзя instead of фуджа for example), other bits are harder to understand but overall it's still instantly recognizable as Aromanian, despite his paeticular speaking, with the unrolled R for example), and you have to know what some archaic words mean, like пикурарь for shepherd, фята for girl, диту for from etc
