I can well accept that you think and say so but I consider that not applicable and I think that you do misinterpret me.
When I deny some people a treatment that many other people consider a sign of empathy then I do not do that because I feel no empathy. I do it because I'm more thoughtful than many other people. When it comes to "refugees welcome" I also feel empathy for all compatriots that in line with the statistical expectation will be killed and harmed by the oriental refugees and their offspring the next 50 years. It's my empathy for them that weights more and makes me say "refugees not welcome".
To just react on what is in front of you and not thinking of the consequences is not a sign of empathy but of mental limitation.
This event that lately happened close to where two children and a grandchild of mine live was in general totally clear already in 2015 to every thoughtful individual:

Austria,Slovenia, Croatia, Moldova and Hungary are not Balkan.
Geographically Turkey is just partially Balkan, yet there are millions of Balkan people (included Balkan Turks) live in Turkey. Claiming Turkey has nothing to do with Balkans is bullshit. Even the number of total pop of Muslim Serbs, Pomaks, Albanians, and others is bigger than many countries.
In my opinion, Bulgaria, Serbia and N. Macedonia are the heart of the Balkans.
Montenegro, Albania, BIH are followers.
Greece is of course Balkan but also she has her character. The same goes for Romania.
Briefly,
1. Bulgaria, Serbia, N.Macedonia
2. Albania, BIH, Montenegro
3. Greece and Romania.
4. Turkey
5. Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Moldova and Hungary

I don't why "only Ottoman influenced architecture = Balkan" (based on comments in this post). Why can't the other architectures present also count as Balkan? There are multiple architectural styles in the Balkans, not only Ottoman.

Best way to analyze this is using a simple points system. Since the Balkans is most associated with the Ottomans, Yugoslavia/communism, and Byzantium; I'll use them. Nobody will disagree that Ottomans had the most impact (they're the reason the term exists), so giving that category the most points. Yugoslavia is very recent and Byzantium is very distant, so I'm going to put Yugoslavia ahead of it (even though Byzantium may have had more impact), especially since the term "Balkans" is much more associated with South Slavs than Orthodoxy nowadays.
Ottoman = 5 points (4.5 points if Ottoman vassal)
Yugoslavia = 4 points (Iron Curtain = 3.5 points)
Byzantium = 3 points
Whoever gets the most points wins.
So this would make North Macedonia the most Balkan and Slovenia the least.

In Albania outside of the coast the most beautiful place is probably Gjirokastėr. I passed through Gjirokastėr last summer, look really nice. I think it has great tourist potential. In Albania i noticed palm trees everywhere in the interior except the far north (Kukės and around).
Town and surrounding look better live than on this video.
