I dislike the way Albanian towns and cities look like, often worse than worst ex-USSR examples. Both apartment blocks and private housing.

Because you will emphasise what distinguishes the Balkans most from your own point of view. For commentators from Anatolia it should then indeed be the Central European architecture. And I can imagine that it is.

It can vary quite a bit by subregion. It also becomes a bit complicated when you consider that people can migrate, take influences with them, and not have influences from regions they aren't native to. The reign of each empire also varies in these locations, so it's a very simplified rating system. But here's a general overview:

    1. North Macedonia = 12
    1. Kosovo = 12
    1. Eastern B&H = 12
    4. Serbia = 12 (cause of Vojvodina)
    5. Montenegro = 11.5
    5. Bulgaria = 11.5
    5. Albania = 11.5
    8. Romania = 11
    9. Western B&H = 9
    9. Inland Croatia = 9
    11. Greece = 8
    12. Moldova = 8 (cause USSR)
    13. Turkey = 5
    12. Most of Hungary (Southern Transdanubia & Alfold) = 5
    14. Coastal Croatia & Northwest Croatia = 4
    15. Slovenia = 4
    16. Northern Transdanubia = 3.5

Hungary tied with Turkey and above NW Croatia and Slovenia looks wrong, but it's not a perfect rating system cause it doesn't take into account how long the territories were ruled. And maybe we could switch the points for Ottomans and Yugoslavia to put Slovenia and the rest of Croatia above Hungary. Moldova also looks higher than it should be, I guess being part of the USSR instead of independent should've given them less points, but I forgot to take that into account.

It's still not what I've meant, but the total lack of architectural and aesthetical personal taste of people in Albania, lots of housing looks just ugly. Plus you don't have that amount of ugly blocks like they do. Ex-Yu cities may have some weird examples but generally they're more or less balanced.

Med climate and influence in Albania penetrates deeper in the interior than for example in Montenegro. Because near of the most of Albanian coast there is no mountains. In Montenegro on the other hand mountains are close to almost entire coast.

My perception. As posted earlier, I am privileging the South Slavic, Orthodox and Ottomanic:

    N. Macedonia
    Bulgaria
    Serbia
    Montenegro
    BiH
    Romania
    Albania
    Croatia
    Greece
    Slovenia
    Moldova
    Hungary
    Turkey
    Austria

Here's my mother's birthtown in southern Croatia, I don't see how it's Balkan:

    Spoiler!

And here's my father town in central Croatia, can't see how's that Balkan either:

    Spoiler!
