Several scientific studies claim that the social and environmental costs of meat products are clearly underestimated. In recent days, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) has put the subject on the table by making an unprecedented proposal: to integrate the cost of animal suffering into the price of transport and, ultimately, into the price of meat.
Here is the report by the European Court of Auditors: https://www.eca.europa.eu/Lists/ECAD...2023-03_EN.pdf
So, there would be a tax for animal suffering. But it is totally crazy that this report is focused on sufferings during transportation, not on slaughter conditions (apart from favouring mobile abattoirs) and there is, especially, not a word on ritual (Islamic/Jewish) slaughter, which causes horrible sufferings and which is extremely widely spread.
