I don't see how Italy in any sense could be regarded as Eastern European. Sweden has some Baltid admixture in phenotype, and a history with all countries in Northeast Europe.

Sweden and Rus' are one and the same in the 10th century. In my garden, I find the remains of the ancient Swedish Vikings - I have a collection of pendants from the Old Russian-Scandinavian culture. Northern Russians have significant Swedish admixture. BUT! The Swedes adopted Catholicism (Protestantism) and a Western orientation in religion. Modern Swedes are transgender, not heterosexual. So today I understand heterosexual Italians better than transgender Swedes. I am Eastern European, Russian. Russians today are much closer to Italians than to Swedes.

Sweden. Based on genetics, phenotype and culture. Italy is borderline MENA. When you travel there, you might feel like you're in a completely different world, maybe even like you're in Syria or something.
