Well, I know that there were pretty harsh conditions for Germans from Yugoslavia and Pince Eugen members were mostly both that and additionally it was not a Wehrmacht but a Waffen-SS unit.

Considering the area that was still German occupied at the 8th of May in 1945 (blue in the map), this "safe haven" (in that very moment) can not have been far away from Ilirska Bistrica...

SS Prinz Eugen were vicious criminals who commited numerous war crimes against civilians, including in Dalmatia.
One of worst WW2 formations on Yugoslav soil during WW2. I don't feel much pity for them.

In Slavonia they burned some villagers alive if I am not mistaken.

I know a woman (Slavonian Manda, I made thread about her results) who's grandpa, ethnic Czech from Slavonia, served there. He was just a peasant and joined them because villagers were told communists are coming to loot their farms and animals. I find it interesting how local Gemans accepted a Czech into their unit. He hid after the war but survived. To my knowledge he personally did nothing wrong, but this unit left a bloody trail across Yugoslavia.

I don't know who has fought at the Balkans without bloodshed and some atrocities.

No.

Genetics can be incompatible with a particular ethnicity but a compatibility does not yet imply an ethnicity. After all an ethnicity is not defined by genetics.

I say it in jest because a lot of Americans would fall under various German regions including East Germany based on their mixes. The sheer quantity would probably overwhelm Germany.
