I mean, sure, "be true to yourself," and get a tattoo if you really want to.
But being in a relationship, it only seems sensible to also consider your partner's opinion on it.
If he doesn't like tattoos, then waiting for him to marry you and getting inked afterwards, seems downright deceptive.

If getting a tattoo is such an important part of who you want to be then you should find a man who likes tattoos, or at least doesn't mind them.

Oh no, that isn't what I meant at all! My partner highly supports me getting a tattoo, and he's actually more excited about it than I am. We plan on marrying, but in case something awful changes, I wouldn't want to harm my future prospects by having a tattoo. Ideally that will never be something we have to worry about!

"This and that, it's fine." Not if you want to appear repectable to the majority of people and the best potential mates. While there are mentaly healthy people with tattoos, the mentally deranged are still of much higher occurrence and therefore are still the representative population for tattoos.

Yes that's a very good view to have, but not in a world where men take advantage of women like you with absolutley zero remorse. That's what you can't fully understand until you've experienced, but you can be warned of. I remember when all the warnings came in, I dug my heels in because I thought I was even more so doing the right thing by sticking by him. There is a balance to be had until he actually marries you in front of everyone. If you give more than that, you are correct to assume you are even more valuable, but not for long, because he will trash you.

Do not cast your pearls before swine. A man who makes excuses not to marry a women who has given him all she can, is a swine.

I hope you don't have my experience, but it is objectively unlikely, and don't let your mind get you into some kind of contest with other women who it didn't work out for. This is good advice, reasonable advice, common sense advice, that any man who is really into tradelife would understand. You don't need to prove anyone wrong here as you would like to do since you have clearly devoted yourself to this man.

My practical advice at this time is to let him know you need confirmation of his promise. If that causes unrest, you should see a very big red flag that many of us have blinded ourselves to to our own destruction. A real man will make the confirmation to you in a real way that causes him to give something too, a very little thing, a lack of sex. He doesn't want you that bad if he doesn't, and even if your first few years are pleasant, that will change.
