We are medium skinned for europe standard, can get pale in winter, but easily tanned, however, there is not a lot of pinkish white people, with rosy cheeks, especially since dalmatia is one of the hottest areas in Europe during summer, so I can recognise Brithsh turists as well as Turkish, just from the looks.

Also because it is hot, it is natural that paler people who prefer colder weather would move north over time, and that is why we have maybe more darker people on average in the south

I think so many people in Dalmatia have permanent tan. It's simply extremely hot and sunny and outdoorsy lifestyle is popular.

well, winters dont usually get too cold, and cold lasts maybe two months, so people are more outside, and in winter we can have sunshine as well.

Only the people from Dalmatia have many dark individuals, but the Croats from Croatia proper (which was part of Hungary at 1000 years) have average European pigmentation and not so much different from Hungarians.

Slavonia is actually not lighter than Dalmatia from what I have seen. They are just more eastern looking. It's Slavonians who overlap with Serbs more than Dalmatians do I'd say.

I don't know about beneficial but most agree a tan looks good and that is why people do it. Armenians want to get even darker too. If I was in Croatia, I would be at beach everyday tanning in paradise.
