Default Tina Turner was an okay singer

But she ushered in a new generation of mostly female vocalists who sing every song as if they are being tortured in pain. But the sheer overall quality is that they lose the ability of nuance. If you listen to a great singer like Patsy Cline, for example- she knew what lines were meant to be emotively belted out , and which lines were emotional, but also which lines were just meant to be "sung" and sung plainly. There is no dynamics in singing every song at the top of your voice. This is why I can't listen to Cher, Celine Dion ,Adele, Whitney Houston, or any other female singer since 1965.

Richmond do you ever listen to British music? I think singers like Sandy Denny, Jaqui McShee (of Pentangle), and Maddy Prior (of Steeleye Span) are experts in using dynamic appropriately, and knowing when to exaggerate their emotion in a song that is otherwise plaintive and gentle. I also can't listen to American women post about 1970 for the same exact reason as you, save a couple folk artists here and there.

I think its best to skip female artists all together.

Adele knows when to tone down or ramp up...effortlessly, and to a lesser extent, the others, as well.
