On a weird side note, there seems to be some serious misinformation about what is or isn't gypsy music used in classical music. So many of us were told that things like Liszt's Hungarian rhapsodies were based on gypsy tunes when they really were based on Hungarian folk melodies. Actually, Liszt himself seems to be an early proponent of this misinformation.

like the distinction between Cajon and Zydeco, it isn't a big deal except for people who are really invested in those types of things. The best way for dealing with one of those is
"thank you for educating me. That is something I really should look into deeper." and never think about it again.
