It must be tough being a vegetarian in Australia, I reckon we have one of the highest meat intakes in the world. I remember talking to some Turk backpacker who was astonished at how much red meat we eat.

How do you even go to a Barbecue.

It's not difficult for me. Everyone knows I don't eat meat and there are plenty of dishes available for vegetarians. I'm going against all my history though as my father's family were Butchers for a few hundred years in Boyle and my mother's family were dairy farmers up until recently and they did that for quite a few generations as well.

Just looking at a Directory for Boyle for 1846 for Tradespeople and my family's shop is listed there. Also my mother's family are mentioned in historical books about the Silvermines and North Tipperary. They have long term roots in those places but now are in other parts of the world. A bit OT but it's interesting the history of Irish migration. For instance where my father's family lived for generations there is no one left there now.

The Most Similar Cuisines to Dutch Food
All five of the countries with the most similar food to the Netherlands border the Atlantic Ocean. With the exception of the United Kingdom, they are members of the European Union. In addition, these nations have relatively similar temperate climates. They tend to eat a lot of bread, potatoes, and meats.

Belgium is located to the south of the Netherlands. Both countries have many Dutch-speaking people as well. As a result, their cuisines are quite similar. Stews such as stoofvlees, erwtensoep, and waterzooi, are popular in both nations. In addition, fries often accompany many of the meals in these countries.

Chad is a former French colony in Africa. Sorghum and millet are the two most commonly consumed grains in the country. These crops are well adapted to the Sahel’s harsh climate. Beef is the most popular meat, but lamb meat is also often eaten there. One popular dish is saka-saka, a mix of spinach and cassava leaves.
South Sudan is another country that borders Sudan. Cassava is the staple food, however the country eats its share of sorghum as well. Porridge is one of the most popular dishes in the country. Meat is much less commonly consumed in the South Sudan.
Democratic Republic of Congo is a large tropical country in the middle of Africa. Cassava is the dominant staple food in the country. The most commonly eaten meat in Congo is fish, whereas pork and chicken are more popular in the Netherlands.

5 Countries with the Most Similar Food Ingredients to Russia
Russia is the largest country by land area, but it is also one of the coldest on average. As a result, the nation boasts a unique culinary tradition. Given its harsh climate, Russia tends to have hearty and substantial meals able to provide sustenance during long, cold winters.

Ukraine is Russia’s neighbor. Both countries are predominately Orthodox Christian countries that were once part of the Soviet Union. Lithuania is another country on this list that borders the Baltic Sea. Their dishes are often made from potatoes, grains, and dairy products. Kugelis, a Lithuanian potato dish, is reminiscent of Russian potato casseroles. Both cuisines also have an abundance of wheat and rye breads. Beet soups are commonly consumed in these countries as well.
