    Default How does Votic language sound like to you?



    IMHO, it sounds very pleasant and close to Finnish, considerably closer than Estonian that is also South Finnic language.

    Such a shame that the language is moribund, only 21 people speak it fluently according to wikipedia.

    Votic people are tribally a subgroup of Estonians and their language is basically what Estonian was before the injection of Low Saxon vocabulary.

    I'm interested in them because they're mentioned in Russian chronicles as one of the founding groups of Novgorod alongside with Slavic tribes and their contribution is seemingly high.
