The average salary of a nurse in Portugal is middle class but in the last decade the profession has been transitioning to lower middle class because of deteriorating working conditions. There has been a very large exodus of Portuguese nurses to other countries such as the UK, which means that the nurses who remain are overburned with their shifts (more problematic in the public hospitals).

I am sure there are some Portuguese nurses here, but most of our foreign nurses come from India, the Phillippines and to a lesser extent Nigeria. (Btw, nurses' salaries are mostly crap here too, relative to their working hours and expertise).

    Lets face it..hahaha...nursing is a social disaster...hahah

Upper middle class woman: What do you do?
Prole woman: I'm a nurse! (said with pride)

In 2017 there were around 5,000 Portuguese nurses practicing in the NHS but this number has been decreasing since then (by 2022 around 2,000 had already returned). I know a couple of nurse friends who were there for about six years and have now returned. Their salary for the Portuguese reality was good, more than 3000€ monthly more or less but maybe in the UK it is something inadequate for the profession. In Portugal a nurse earns on average half of that (about 1500€).

Many doctors here look white proper. You can even tell by their names.

I doubt the majority do though. (Even in Colombia, most doctors in my experience look Mestizo, even though there are a good number of White ones of course as well).

Do you mean they'd often have French/German/Italian/Polish surnames?

Lower-middle class in Uruguay, which falls into the working class.

Lower-middle-class is sort of transitional between working and middle-class, but still more the latter IMHO.

Somewhere on a border, but it has a relatievly good social view, compared to other working-class jobs.
