Also, some German surnames were Brazilianized, so if the data's made by counting the surnames it might have underestimated the number of German-Brazilians, see História da imigraça̋o alema̋ no sul do Brasil.

You hadn't mentioned full or predominant German ancestry before and my source shows even São Paulo had a pretty expressive German population (much larger than I expected) and that especially in the South there were many who got naturalized and therefore were probably not accounted as Germans.
