Too northern for what? They are real Early Medieval Wielkopolans. That's how Wielkopolans looked like in the Early Middle Ages.

I mean Early Medieval Slavs are quite northern in comparison to modern Poles, Ukrainians and Russians. Slavs that do not have much Baltic input can't be modelled with these medieval samples and require something from the south and I have no idea why.

Russians from Smolensk are identical to Belarussians.

They are close, as well as all western central and southern Russians. This is one population of people.



All Russians, Belarusians and eastern Ukrainians are located between Poles and Balts. Russians from Smolensk are closer to southern Russians than to Belarusians and other Eastern Slavs.

There is some kind of border for the Russians when they begin to be drawn north to ANE. Apparently, there was a substrate of the Finno-Ugric Merya people in this place.
