    I chose Italian because I like how it sounds and spelling pretty much corresponds to pronounciation (at least there are some simple rules to remember, no pronounciation madness like for English language).
    Also Italian is the closest living language to the ancient Latin.

    I think most people would choose, if not their own language, then what is easiest to learn for them as native-speakers. If they speak Germanic they would pick German, if they speak Slavic then Russian, and if they speak Romance then Italian or Spanish, etc.

    I, too, for this reason would pick German.
