Well you're not the first pole who came here banging their chest like a gorilla when they saw the latest GDP per capita adjusted by PPP values. We all remember Roy's "Why is Portugal so poor" thread.
The fact that Poland or Romania have weaker currencies might help tell the story of why eastern countries are rising in the PPP table. We'll see how Croatia does in the next years now that they are in the euro.
The fact is if we look at Nominal figures, Portugal, Greece and some eastern countries have currently the following values:
Portugal 25,065
Greece 19,673
Poland 18,109
Romania 14,968
Bulgaria 11,321
You say Bulgaria has already passed Greece and Poland and Romania have passed Portugal, i'm not so sure about that. On the other hand if we look at GDP per capita adjusted by PPP we can see eastern countries are all rising quicky. Another country that is rising in the PPP table is Saudi Arabia and it has overtaken Finland, Canada, France and the UK:
Saudi Arabia 64,836
Finland 60,897
Canada 60,177
France 58,828
United Kingdom 56,471
Of course Nominal tells a different story, but yeah Nominal is bulshit:
Finland 54,351
Canada 52,722
United Kingdom 46,371
France 44,408
Saudi Arabia 29,922
