Gay used to mean joyful until the 1970s and homosexuals were just homosexuals. I don't like how they confiscated a word and gave it a new meaning. Germans call themselves Deutsche in their own language, but no one else calls them that in non-German languages. Same with the gypsies becoming the Roma. It doesn't matter if you change the name anyway, because the supposedly negative connotations of the old word will be inherited by the new word. No one want to be called gay or a Roma either f.e., other than actual gypsies and homosexuals for some reason. I mean gay is used as an insult too.

I had a bisexual female colleague. We are currently not in contact, but not for the reason of her sexual orientation. We grew apart, because we live in different countries and in time, we lost contact.
I appreciated that she was quite honest and open. She told me dating females is more difficult than dating men.

I have two male homosexuals (a couple) on the "friendship level" between fb friends and real friends. They are okay and are behaving inconspiciously. The contact is mediated via my wife and I maybe see them once a year. I was even guest at their "wedding".
The reason not to socialise more with them is unrelated to their sexual orientation. Although I must say to have a homosexual as a "best friend" and hiking with together and sleeping with together in the same room or flat, as I do with "best friends", I'd not like to do. In that case their sexual orientation would make me feel uncomfortable.

Indeed, it takes more than small talk to get to know someone.
With this girl, I didn't knew about her being bi. We befriended and only later did she hinted that she "loves everyone", but it didn't hinder our interaction. Apart from dating and so on, we could talk about many subjects.
