How do you explain Mats Hummels?

I don't think Hummels is rare among Germans, it is true that he may be darker than average but he is not that atypical either.
Even among Nazi leaders there are examples of dark people, Goebbels or Rudolf Hess for example.

What`s the constant fuss about him anyway? Sure, his type is rather uncommon in Germany but surely not unheard of. People tend to forget there have been Romans on German soil and genetics, being the roulette they are, can pop up phenos from hundreds if not thousands of years ago.

According I remember, rosy skin and blond hair was introduced in Europe by steppe people, aboriginal europeans (WHG and derivatives) are dark.

Actually that doesn't usually matter for 2 reasons.
The first is that the Romans usually have many soldiers from the conquered territories, so it is likely that many Romans who were in Germany were nothing more than other Germanic or Celts and a minority of Mediterranean Romans.
And the second is that the Roman presence was not strong enough to affect the population, in which case people like Hummels already existed even among the native Germanic population.

Looks normal Western Euro.

Looks normal western/southern Euro (passes well in Italy from northern to central regions of the country), but he indeed DOES LOOK ATYPICAL FOR GERMANY (not even the pigmentation issue, but he looks very med-ish instead of Central/Northern Euro).
