    Arrow German and Dutch speakers: Is Brazilian Hunsrückisch intelligible to you?

    It's a dialect derived mainly from the Rhenish Franconian and Moselle Franconian varieties that has evolved in Brazil for circa 200 years. What does it sound like to you? Does it still bear a resemblance to the accents spoken in Rhineland-Palatinate?

    Is it considerably harder to understand than some dialects widely regarded as being difficult, like Swiss German? I don't know if you have experience hearing it, so sorry.

    It'd also be helpful to hear the opinion of Dutch speakers.

    Surprising to know that for all the time it has been isolated from Europe, but as it is derived from Central German dialects it makes sense it doesn't have some particularities from Upper and Low German. I guess it's also easier to understand than Dutch, isn't it?

    Is it common in Brasil that local germans can speak dialect? Among danube swabians the local dialect is almost extinct, only some elder can speak it. I know just only some danube swabian word and slang:

    Du bist majer = you are cool person
    Pötsch = dick, penis
    Simföl = chide

    Yes, it's all quite easy to understand. I think they would have a much harder time understanding us, than vice versa.
