That's normal procedure for cops to position themselves like this. When someone fails to comply, one of them will try to put himself in front of the windshield to have a counter diving view of the passenger compartiment, if they have enough time they should even lay their arm on the hood. First priority is to avoid the car to get moving again as it will likely result in a dangerous chase with serious threats to other civilians. Same case than this one:

The positioning of the french cop was completely different, he was on the side of the car, close to the windshield pointing his gun, he would never get hit by the car if the driver decides to escape, the american cop was in a completely frontal position, obviously we was risking his life, terribly dumb positioning.

I have mixed feelings but I believe the shooting was justified while acknowledging the cop put himself in danger without needing to do so.

How a cop is expected to engage:

* car didn't have a license plate
* parked in a handicap spot (closer to the store)
* Others had stolen booze too but then went in different directions and so got away

So there was obviously a plan to steal alcohol (of all things).

My belief is the cop should not have placed himself in front of the car. He should have placed himself at an angle to the car to cover his bro. By putting himself in front of the car, he's putting himself in unnecessary danger.

However, the fact of the matter is she purposely hit the gas while he was in front, and while he tried to move away, the car made contact and did lift him off his feet when he fired. So while he could have moved out of the way, everything was happening so fast that he reacted with the thought his life was in danger.

This is irrelevant to whether the cop was wrong or right but just to let you know what type person this woman was: her grandmother, who raised her, had a restraining order on her. She's shoplifted before. As I already pointed out, she was part of a group that planned a mass theft of alcohol.

She was pregnant. Unfortunately, she and the fetus died.

She created this situation, and while I think the cop could have been smarter about the situation I wouldn't be able to convict him because of a situation in the moment where a car literally lifted him off the ground and so naturally he's going to react.

If she was not armed or threatening Police why at that point did he have to stand in front of her aiming the gun at her.
Other argument , she could have had a weapon or used the car as a weapon.
Was she trying to use the car as a weapon or was she primarily trying to get away.

Clearly she was trying to evade Police = does that require shots being fired to her person.

Did the officer not get run over because he moved out of the way when he realised the car was moving or did he not get run over because he shot her ?

OFC his defense council will make the argument he acted in self defence as he felt she was using car as a weapon against him.

I suspect she may have just wanted to evade police and flee the scene as opposed to specific intent of running over the cop, however her actions could have resulted in the cop being injured .

In the end if she had committed a crime and was evading Police in eyes of the law
she is in the wrong.
Was the force used against her being shots fired to body excessive ? if it was a relative of yours that something like this happened to maybe one might say so.
OTOH such situations are tricky from Police perspective.
Probably wold not convict him but not sure that the force used was not excessive.

The US cop issue is not restricted to white cops, even black and latino cops are paranoid. There's several videos of non-white cops with the same behaviour, even petalpusher posted one with afro-latino cops interacting with a black us lieutenant. Same shit...
