O dinheiro e o prestigio sao muito melhor com a Franca! And there have been other prominent Luso players for the French rugby team in recent years too, like Guilhem Guirado and Morgan Parra.

I am well aware that rugby in Portugal is completely amateur and there is no money in it, but he could still play for French clubs while representing his national team (if he feels Portuguese, maybe he doesn't).

Guirado is not a Portuguese surname, unless it's been "Frenchified".

Yeah my bad, according to Wiki he is of Spanish, not Portuguese descent:

if he s born in FR and grew up there he s hardly a Portuguese culturally, although eligible to play for the national team.

France always had players of very different national backgrounds, but almost always those were born in FR, grew up in FR, for which they were fully French imo.

rugby has been my favourite sport since childhood, slightly above football which I love as well. this type of game with scoring penalties to win isnt t my favourite. at least drop goals of Wilkinson were more acceptable as they were scored during active play, though still you should not win only with multiple 3 points gathered like that.

Romania will certainly lose all games in the group, but I will still enjoy every minute of playing at the world cup

So far in world cups 8 wins for the southern hemisphere and just 1 for the northern. the betting odds put France and NZ as the favourites.

I don't follow rugby closely but I'll try to watch Portugal's matches and a few classics from the quarter finals on.

Which rugby leagues pay better? I reckon England and France for Europe but do the southern hemisphere leagues pay more or less on average?

Jitters for Pool B. 3 of the top 5 sides in one pool and also Tonga who could do some damage. A really good team is going to go home without getting to the quarter finals. I hope that isn't Ireland. Anyway feeling very nervous.

Congratulations France on winning against All Blacks. It's funny that some presenters here are tipping Australia to win the whole thing. They are lucky to be on the other side of the draw but I really think that is super optimistic on their part and also a lack of impartiality.

With the games coming up Ireland to beat Romania (sorry Nurzat but great Romania are in the World Cup and it will be great experience for them). I'm really interested to see how Scotland go against South Africa. South Africa should win but it will be interesting to see how competitive Scotland are against them. Scotland are one of the dark horses in this World Cup. Also the game with Argentina vs England should be very interesting indeed.

A bit peeved that both Ireland, South Africa and Scotland are in the same pool. The two top teams and no 5. Group of Death no doubt.

I don't find a detailed genealogical tree for him. But the guy was born in France and live all his life there. He might have a grandfather or a great grandfather who were born in Portugal and that's his only link with the country out of going 3 times in hollidays there.

I think Ireland will qualify easily. Together with France and South Africa those 3 are currently the best teams. Scotland is no match.

Neither Australia or NZ have particularly brilliant teams for their usual standards but in the knock out stage anything can happen.
