Beyond the major ex-French colonies of Quebec and Louisiana (and before independence, Algeria), in spite of France's vast Empire, they haven't really migrated or settled elsewhere very much when compared to many other European groups: British, Irish, Dutch, Germans, Poles, Czechs, Russians, Romanians, Albanians, Bulgarians, Greeks, Italians, Portuguese and Spaniards all seem to have more notable diasporas in many countries than do the French. It cannot be due to being exceptionally wealthy or politically stable, certainly when compared to the British, who seem to have settled overseas in far greater numbers than the French have, and not just in their ex-colonies either. (Compare and contrast the sizes of the British and French diasporas particularly in Southern Europe and the Arabian Peninsula).
