    She probably has Jewish ancestry as her surname Giter is of Yiddish derivation. Her first name Maya is not explicitly Christian or Slavic. I would assume a woman being named Maya in Israel would not strongly suggest FSU ancestry like Katrin or Natasha might.

    Yes, Giter sounds like Yiddish surname. Maya is ethnic-neutral Israeli name. I wonder how common is it in Russia / Ukraine.

    If someone has a Slavic first name in Israel does that usually mean they were raised Eastern Orthodox? Do Jewish FSU immigrants often use these names too?
