What are your favorite musical instruments?

I'm also interested in knowing if you have a preference for a certain "family" of instruments and if you play any. Are the instruments you like to listen to the same ones you like to play?

I like them all, although I admit that I have not learned to play any of them to a good level.

It is one of my "pending subject" in which I have always had a lot of interest, but I have not been able to give it the attention it deserved. Besides, being quite old I am a little afraid of not being able to learn to play any of them at the level that I would like to be able to do.

I like the violin and the piano, although perhaps if I started with one I should dedicate myself to something more "simple" like the classical guitar.

After writing this I guess I should consider string instruments my favorites,, including pianos and similars as string instruments (with struck strings).

I like all kind of instruments, being musically talented is another level of intelligence and I respect that.

I could make a case for any "normal" instrument in a regular symphony orchestra.
So instead, I'm going to proffer the Steel guitar.

I play guitar and to lesser degree bass,piano and drums.
I like listening to the interplay between the standard contemporay band set up of
guitars,bass,drums and or addition of piano/keyboards/synth.
I can listen to and appreciate a little bit of everything by that meaning lots different instruments and styles of music, however I tend to come back to mostly guitar based western contemporary music in the form of music-bands-singers - ranging from the late 50's and up to near modern times.

Nylon Guitar, Lute (baroque) Saz, Oud, Harpsichord, Oboe, Mijwiz, various forms of bagpipes, Duduk, various frame drums, Tabla, Darkbuka and probably some others I can't recall at the moment.
