Exactly, like I said earlier, the US is preoccupied and overextended and has lost control of Latin America, its own 'backyard',
because the US is too busy in the Middle East and Asia and Ukraine;

eventually the US will lose control of those areas too, and will fight to keep control of Europe and the US itself

The idea of a referendum is a dumb idea. That the Esequibo (area of Guyana that is claimed by Venezuela) is part of the Venezuelan territory is already stated in the Venezuelan constitution.

With only Venezuela and Colombia re-united (no matter about the rest) I would be more than happy.

Isn't Guyana very ethnically and culturally different than Venezuela, being mostly Indian/south Asian? Can't see how they could justify it.

The thing is that the area claimed by Venezuela is very sparsely populated.

You guys don't realize that if this happens, the most likely scenario is that Brazil and Colombia will declare war on Venezuela, with the support of the US and the EU. Everyone is talking about the US in this thread as if the US needed to allocate troops on the ground. It doesn't. This would be a huge mistake on Venezuela's part, not least because it seems clear that Venezuelans, who live in a state of perpetual misery, don't care about Guyana for anything and are even less willing to support Maduro's regime in the event of war.
